ABOUT JOHN AVINGER
John Avinger has been studying, playing and promoting hand drumming since 1981. He was the director and producer of the Seattle World Rhythm Festival for 12 years, ran John's Music from 1981 to 2011, has taught drumming workshops for the Evergreen Orff Chapter (elementary music teachers), directed the kids drumming ensemble, Drums and Roses, which performed for the World Rhythm Festival and the Evergreen Orff Chapter, directed the junk percussion marching ensemble for the Solstice parade, and lots of other stuff.

Using vocalizations, body percussion, & hand drums (congas & djembes), we will experience what rhythm can do and it can do a lot. No experience necessary, drums provided.
Private lessons available on Conga and Djembe drums.

After 30 years of business, John retired from retail sales, and closed John's Music Center. The store's last day of operation was August 31, 2011. John continues to teach drumming classes at The Music Center of the Northwest, a community music school in North Seattle. Information on John's Hand Drumming Classes is listed above.

1.Mad Robin Music and Dance offers books, music, CDs, DVDs, recorders, Orff instruments, and mallets for Early Childhood and Elementary Music and Dance Education. We also carry recorders, music stands, and accessories for adult players. This on-line business was started by Margaret Swain, a 20-year employee of John's Music. She continues to serve music and dance educators through the internet and in person at workshops, courses and conferences. Mad Robin Music offers an on-site Orff Instrument Repair Service, as well as parts and technical support for teachers wishing to do their own repairs.
